“And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding." (Jeremiah 3:15)
HAPPY TRAILS! Immanuel OPC in West Collingswood, NJ hosted a barbecue retirement party for Pastor Neil and Susan Lodge on Saturday July 13, 2019 from noon to 4:00 pm on the grounds of the church. About 70 people were invited and attended this special event which was catered and staffed by Mission BBQ, and our church provided an assortment of beverages and water ices for our guests. The barbecue comprised of brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken along with potato salad, cole slaw, and string beans with onions and bacon. Also included were an assortment of mild and spicy sauces for the meats and side salads with an assortment of dressings plus kettle chips.
The theme was “Happy Trails,” and the tents and tables were decorated with cowboy hats, New Jersey and Texas Flags, and red bandana table runners. A special cupcake sheet cake and a tray of assorted donuts along with Happy Trail mixes and red bandanas with cowboy boot keychains were given out as “take-away” gifts.
We opened the program with a hearty welcome and a prayer for everyone in attendance. A presentation was then made to Neil and Susan Lodge in the form of Visa gift cards as a farewell gift for their journey to Texas from everyone in attendance including those who were not able to attend. A “Remembrance Jar,” in the form of a cactus sun tea jar filled with memory notes, cards, and photographs, was also presented to them. A toast was made to Neil and Susan blessing them on their time in the ministry and for their future, which was then followed by eating, fellowship, and fun and games.
We closed out the festivities in the church sanctuary with a YouTube slideshow presentation wonderfully done by Jessica McDonald, the Lodge’s daughter in Texas.
A closing prayer was given to all who attended thanking them for celebrating Neil and Susan Lodge and for safe travels back home. We all wish Neil and Susan “Happy Trails,” and God’s blessing to them both.
